St. John’s based clarinetist and Memorial University music professor, Christine Carter, will bring her acclaimed Iris Trio to MUN Saturday March 3rd 2018. The group will play a concert, “Homage and Inspiration,” at 7.30pm at D.F. Cook Hall. Concert tickets are $22 / $16 seniors and students / $5 12 and under.

On Thursday March 1st, the trio will present three masterclasses, free and open to the public.

10am-12pm     Piano Masterclass with Anna Petrova, Cook Hall

12-1pm            Chamber Music Masterclass with the full Iris Trio, Suncor Energy Hall

1-2:30pm         Viola/Violin Masterclass with Molly Carr, Suncor Energy Hall

The trio features American violist Molly Carr (on faculty at Juilliard Pre-College) and Bulgarian pianist Anna Petrova (on faculty at Sam Houston University), both internationally renowned soloists and chamber musicians.

Praised for their “sensitivity and great tonal beauty,” the Iris Trio (Christine Carter clarinet, Molly Carr viola, and Anna Petrova piano) began working together during their years at Juilliard and the Manhattan School of Music. Their debut at the German Consulate in New York City was sold out and immediately followed by an invitation to the prestigious Mozartfest in Würzburg, Germany. The trio subsequently gave the world premiere of Christof Weiß’s new work, Conversation Among Friends, at the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Residence Palace, later appearing in Michael Wende & Andreea Varga’s documentary, “MozartLabor.” As individual players, they have performed around the world on many of the major concert stages from Lincoln Centre and Carnegie Hall to the Sydney Opera House.

This concert will mark the premiere of their new program, “Homage and Inspiration,” which they will tour and record in Germany in April 2018. The program intertwines and rediscovers the past and present through two pairs of trios for clarinet, viola and piano: Gyorgy Kurtag’s Hommage a R. Sch.with Robert Schumann’s Fairytales, and Christof Weiß’s Conversation Among Friends with Mozart’s Kegelstatt Trio.

Tickets are available at the door, online at, or by phone at 1-888-311-9090
