All Ages: Live Music: The Dandelion Few and Jenina MacGillivray at the Battery Cafe

Saturday, April 7, 7:00

1 Duckworth St., St. John's

Drawing from a deep well of influence, the Dandelion Few amalgamate and weave for themselves a fine web of folk styles that tips a hat to many heroes of the vast genre. The Dundalk and Newfoundland two-piece share a love of ballads of old with a keenness for writing new gems and bring them to the light in a subtle wash of harmony that has often been compared to artists such the Civil Wars and Gillian Welch & Dave Rawlings.

Known for her lyrical prowess, hypnotic voice and poignant songwriting, Jenina MacGillivray is a Canadian folk singer songwriter originally from Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, now based in Newfoundland. A musical hometown hero in Sin City (St. John’s, NL), Jenina can often be found charming audiences in one of the many bars and cafés downtown and around the bay with her compelling stage presence and relatable stories and songs.

MacGillivray was Winner of the 2017 Newfoundland and Labrador Arts and Letters Award for her song Roots. Jenina is currently planning her first studio album, with Borealis award winning musician Jake Nicoll (Studio J, St. John’s) for release in July of 2018.
