Mr. H Presents, in partnership with MusicNL, is holding the fifth Make Music Happen songwriting conference, an annual event during which aspiring songwriters develop their ideas with well-established artists. Through a variety of workshop sessions, students will work with professionals to hone their craft, receive guidance on writing and performing, and have a chance to showcase their talents with their peers.

This year’s conference will take place over two days, with a songwriters circle capping off day one, and a student showcase finishing day two. Saturday night’s songwriters circle performance is open to the public and will feature this year’s four widely-acclaimed professional songwriters: Jenina MacGillivray, Len O’Neill, Mark Bragg, and Sarah Harris.

In addition to the songwriting workshops, students will also attend other workshops covering other aspects of making music (being a member of a band, managing online presence, making artistic choices, etc.) lead by four highly-respected local artists, Emma Peckford, Michael Moulton, Scott Sheppard, and Susy Randell.

The cost for the conference is $60, and space is limited. Students interested can contact Mr. H through his email: paul.heppleston@gmail.com. This event is open to musicians aged 12-18. For more information, visit facebook.com/mrhpresents

The songwriters circle concert – this year, at Swirsky’s – is open to all. Tickets are $15, or $10 for students, and they are available at both Brewed Awakening locations.

Mr. H Presents…is a volunteer project of high school teacher, Paul Heppleston.  A musician and life-long music lover, Mr. H started hosting and promoting all-ages shows in June 2010 as a way to create more opportunities for young people to experience live music, whether at performers or observers.  Mr. H has put on over a hundred and twenty concerts and open mic events Western and Central Newfoundland.
