Port of Call is a male/female folk pop duo that relies heavily on sparse instrumentation, strong vocal harmonies, and sweet melodies to create a sound all their own. They are inspired and influenced by such groups as The Civil Wars, The Head and the Heart, Swell Season, and Whitehorse to name a few. In the last two and a half years, Port of Call have worked tirelessly, performing at various venues in St. John’s as well as across the province at such festivals as The Gathering, Eat the Hill, and at the upcoming Roots Rants & Roars festival. In 2014 readers of St. John’s based arts and culture magazine The Overcast, voted Port of Call the city’s best musical duo beating out several other prominent acts. In 2014 the band also won the right to attend and perform at Canadian Music Week in Toronto. During this conference Port of Call played two showcases at established venues in Toronto, with both showcases being well received by the local crowd.
On July 17th, 2014 the band released their debut EP Darkness & Light which has gone on to sell out of three separate runs of the CD. The duo released their new single The Vow on September 24th, with a music video for the song being released on February 14th in concert with CBC’s Searchlight 2017 competition. The duo is currently working on new music with producer Peter Daniel Newman, with follow up singles planned for the summer and fall respectively.
