FACTOR
FACTOR (Foundation to Assist Canadian Talent on Records) is one of two private foundations that form the non-profit organization FMC, Factor/Musicaction Canada. The FMC has an agreement with the Department of Canadian Heritage to manage four components of the Sound Recording Development Program (SRDP):
Audio & Video Production
Marketing & Touring
Business Development
Specialized Music Distribution
FACTOR and its French counterpart, Musicaction, share a common mission: to support the production of quality audio recordings, their promotion and marketing, as well as the structuring of an independent sound recording industry in Canada. Their programs offer support for demos, full-length recordings, showcasing, touring, videos, marketing and attending songwriter workshops.
Applications and assistance are also provided by the MUSICNL, a regional affiliate for FACTOR.
The application process begins with the completed application form, along with required attachments, received by the FACTOR office in Toronto by 5pm on the deadline date. The application is sorted according to program and genre, and then sent to an evaluation jury. This peer jury, which can be anywhere in Canada, consisting of 3-5 industry professionals, will decide if the application warrants funding. The application process takes approximately 12 weeks.
Members of MUSICNL who are interested in participating in a local jury may contact Denis Parker at the MUSICNL office.
