Dillon Collins has been a staff writer at The Newfoundland Herald since the fall of 2013. Beginning as a freelancer, Collins became a valued full time staffer following his graduation from Memorial University’s Bachelor of Arts program, majoring in English with a minor in History.
Since joining the 70-plus year provincial institution, Collins has interviewed and profiled the who’s who of Newfoundland and Labrador’s music scene including various MusicNL award winners and industry professionals.
Collins’ work specializes in the spotlighting of local talent, regardless of genre or medium, from folk and trad to heavy metal and hip hop.
He is a former juror of both the MusicNL and East Coast Music Awards and has a well-rounded and varied education and of the Atlantic regions’ music culture.
In addition to his work The Newfoundland Herald, Collins has freelanced for a wide variety of entertainment mediums including Rock Eden, Refined, and The Muse. Nationally and internationally, Collins’ work has been featured in outlets including and not limited to Outburn Magazine, Brave Words, Metal Injection and Metalheads Forever.
Collins has covered numerous high profile events and festivals including George Street Festival, Newfoundland and Labrador Folk Festival, Salmon Festival, Eastbound Hoedown and nationally acclaimed music festivals Osheaga and Heavy Montreal.
He has likewise been commissioned to compile bios and one-sheets for local artists including Chris Andrews, The Combine and Quote The Raven.
Some of his more prominent and noteworthy interviews within the music landscape include John Fogerty, Vince Neil, Gordon Lightfoot, Judas Priest, Chris Jericho, Megadeth, Cradle of Filth, James Taylor, Maroon 5, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Flo Rida, Ghost, Corrosion of Conformity, Richard Marx and Rex Brown, while high profile interviews outside of the medium include numerous political figures past and present, actors Jason Momoa and Jason Priestley, and sports stars including hockey players, Olympians and professional wrestlers.
