Known for her lyrical prowess, hypnotic voice and poignant songwriting, Jenina MacGillivray is an Canadian indie/fok singer/songwriter originally from Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, now based in Newfoundland. MacGillivray is a musical hometown hero in Sin City (St. John’s, NL), and can often be found charming audiences in one of the many bars and cafés downtown and around the bay with her compelling stage presence and relatable stories and songs. Winner of the 2017 Newfoundland and Labrador Arts and Letters Award in the Senior Music Division for her song Roots, MacGillivray recently played the Lawnya Vawnya Festival, The Lantern Festival, many a bar shows, and is a champion of intimate house concert and café scene. Jenina is currently working her first studio album with 2017 Borealis award winning musician Jake Nicoll (Studio J) for release in April 2018.
Also a filmmaker and videographer Jenina has directed three award winning short films which have screened in festivals across Canada, the US and Europe, most recently at the Kerry Film Festival in Ireland (2017). Jenina is a founding board member of Girl’s Rock NL, a not-for-profit rock camp for girls in Newfoundland and Labrador.
