Land of the Lakes
Alternative \ Rock \ Pop
Land of the Lakes is the indie rock husband and wife duo of Matthew Thomson and Danielle Hamel from St. John's, NL. They play a combination of orchestral indie pop and alt rock shoe-gazer with fuzzed out guitars and dreamy melodies. Eager to introduce their two kids to the ways of indie rock, as a follow-up to their 2015 self-titled album, they released a rock album for kids entitled Pink Rabbit in February 2017. They play live as a six-piece band.
This year, their stop motion music video for Zamboni is an official selection at the upcoming 2018 St. John’s International Women’s Film Festival and earlier this year at the 2018 Nickel Independent Film Festival in St. John's, NL, and is nominated for the 2018 MusicNL Video of the year. They opened for Land of Talk at Lawnya Vawnya in May 2018. In 2017, they were nominated for MusicNL Awards for Pop/Rock Group of the Year and Music Video of the Year and in 2015, for Alternative Artist of the Year and Rising Star of the Year, and were longlisted for the Borealis Music Prize.
Land of the Lakes’ song On These Days is currently the theme song for Unis TV’s webisodes for Hors Circuits. In 2015, they were chosen by Grant Lawrence as a Top 10 Standout across Canada in CBC’s Searchlight competition. They've shared the stage with some of Canada's hottest acts including Land of Talk, Repartee, By Divine Right, Monomyth, Kelly McMichael & The Gloss, Fog Lake, The Pathological Lovers, The Long Distance Runners, En Riet, and Isle of Ease.
