Pop \ Rock \ Funk
Peter Welsh is ready to crack the pop music scene with his catchy hooks, pop-funk grooves and contagious rhythm all thrown together, with a retro rock n’roll vibe.
Growing up he took a huge liking for art and pop culture, then began writing, taking the leap into becoming a passionate musician at the young age of 12.
Now at 17 years old, Peter has matured in his songwriting and developed cool showmanship, as well as a likeable character/ quality to his sound.
You’ll find him listening to rock bands and artists such as Kiss, Aerosmith, Poison, Bon Jovi, Def Leppard, and Bryan Adams, all the way to modern acts such as DNCE, Nick Jonas, Half the Animal, Maroon 5, Drake, The Weeknd + many hip hop, r&b and other pop artists besides. He considers one of his main songwriting and composing techniques “just listening” to other genres, and mashes of them on the radio in partnership with what makes them great songs. As well as replicating and representing those ideas/influences in new ways. Peter’s outlook on his music goes like this: “I’d like to think I’m sort of rock n’ roll inspired pop, rather than pop inspired rock n’ roll.”
Entertaining is a service he loves to provide to people on and off the stage. He has been revealing his singing, guitar hooks and stage presence at school events, local concerts as well some open mics. You can also catch him with a band he fronts, called “Coastal Heartache” (originally “Radio Radar”) in which his rock attitude bleeds through. The band has had some local publicity amongst local teens when they won 2nd place at the annual K- Rock “Battle Of The Bands” in March of 2017, as well as an outdoor community show celebrating Canada’s 150th in Springdale, NL during the summer that year.
In July of 2017, Peter joined forces with namesake producer and former president of MusicNL, Peter Daniel Newman. Newman works out of St John’s, NL and Nashville, TN and has worked for Clint Black's Blacktop Publishing and has songs represented by and/or co-writes with Sony, Ole, Curb, Atlantic, Universal Music Group, Union Street Records and Spring Hill Publishing. Together, the two have been working on his debut single “Shutter N’ Shake” – a song comparing young love to taking instant photographs. The track combines bass grooves from mainstream pop radio, and a guitar driven hook inspired by rock anthems.
Little known fact: Newman was the lead guitarist and co songwriter for a hard rock band Peter’s father, Byron Welsh and him founded, named “Broken” in the late 80’s/early 90’s.
The singer’s heavy musical background comes from the bond he has with his family and his father, sharing many musical moments with them.
Be on the watch, as Peter dives into his music career further in the following months and years to come.
