Drawing inspiration from a life spent on the ocean and on the road, Scott Gilbert channels a strain of soulful bluesy rock with a tinge of country, each song weaving a tale of life and love.
Hailing from a small town in Newfoundland, Scott’s songs reflect the rugged landscape that shaped their creator – they take you on a journey to every corner of the earth that he’s visited in his years as a sailor. Gilbert’s MusicNL Award-nominated debut album “Savage Mugup” was released independently in 2014, with two album release events each drawing over 150 attendees. It was recorded at Rock Island Studios in Scott’s hometown of Greens Harbour, NL, and features performances by some of Newfoundland’s finest musicians. Lyrically, each track explores another of Scott’s lived experiences; a longing for home when away at sea or on the road, a musician’s touring life, and far-away love. The music is a marriage of modern and classic rock tones, yet shows Scott’s versatility as a songwriter – from ballads to down-and-dirty rock anthems, he’s capable of it all, and it’s all there on “Savage Mugup”.
Having recently showcased at the 2016 MusicNL Week Festival, Scott is currently preparing to release his sophomore album in 2017, and constantly strives to expand his fanbase locally and beyond. He’s received media recognition locally from radio and print outlets including CBC, The Telegram, the Herald, VOCM, CHMR, and more.
