2018 has been a busy year for NL flute looper Rozalind MacPhail. She’s the first Canadian flutist to be sponsored by U.S. company, Gemeinhardt Musical Instruments. MacPhail was nominated for an East Coast Music Award and four MusicNL Awards. She completed a 26-date Long & McQuade / Gemeinhardt sponsored workshop tour of Atlantic Canada, showcased at the National Flute Convention and in September, she toured for the first time in Sweden and Germany. MacPhail buckles down for the winter in St. John’s as she starts recording her new groove-induced album, GET YOUR FLUTE ON.
“This song reminds me of those moments when we ache to return to a special time in our lives,” MacPhail says. “I always get goosebumps performing this audience favourite.”
Shona Thomson’s nostalgic film features 1940’s archival footage of Wilmington, North Carolina. Capturing haunting moments from our past, she took every moment when someone is gazing back at the camera. Originally on 16mm film, it was transferred to analogue video then to digital file. Losing a generation with each transfer, the film’s history is reflected.
