Regardless of the configuration of her band, the atmosphere of the room, the shoes on your feet, or the day of the week, Kat McLevey will be keeping things real with her catalogue of vulnerable, earnest, and honest songs. Exploring themes of chronic illness, long-distance love, and growing pains of adulthood, McLevey’s acoustic guitar and sweetly weaving melodies have garnered her many accolades to date.
With her debut 2015 release Evergrown as the stepping stone, McLevey was awarded two MusicNL Awards for Female Artist of the Year and Emerging Artist of the Year, an East Coast Music Award nomination for Rising Star Recording of the Year, and a spot on the Newfoundland alternative arts newspaper The Overcast’s triple-juried shortlist for the Borealis Music Prize. McLevey has been featured on both national radio and television programs such as CBC Radio 2 Morning Show, The Strombo Show, Performance Hour, and Absolutely Maritimes.
A day after her sold-out hometown release show of Evergrown, McLevey moved to Boston, MA to pursue a bachelor of music at the world-renowned Berklee College of Music. Throughout that time, McLevey kept quiet in regards to her solo performing and recording projects. Maintaining patience while amassing new musical skill sets proved to be both a challenge and a privilege, but with her degree under her belt now, McLevey has returned to the province to begin the next chapter of her career.
