Reggie Morales, born Michael Paul Moyst, is a Canadian hip hop artist and music producer who lives and works in St. John’s, Newfoundland. Reggie started playing guitar when he was 7 years old. However, it wasn’t until the age of 19 when he developed a passion for hip hop music, and began creating his own. Under his former moniker, “Moyst,” he has released three solo projects, and two joint projects with longtime friend and producer, AKOGOLD. He has released three projects with fellow artist, Steffi, and is currently producing her debut mixtape. He has produced, recorded, and guest-featured on tracks from local artists such as Dope Piece, Mak11, and Antics. Reggie has performed as a solo act and also frequently performs with fellow producer and hip-hop artist, g_sm00th. He has received praise from fans and other local musicians on the originality of his work and captivating live performances. Some Reggie Morales performance highlights include opening for touring artists such as Tech N9ne, Machine Gun Kelly, SonReal, and R.A. the Rugged Man.
In 2017, g_sm00th and Reggie Morales released the album, Van Buren Boys. This collaborative project was well received by the local hip hop community. In his most recent performances, Reggie has brought the Van Buren Boys from CD to stage with a live band. The Van Buren Boys band is comprised of Reggie, g_sm00th and Steffi, along with musicians Shaun McCabe, Griffin Simpson, Don Mackey and Liam Ryan. Van Buren Boys won the MusicNL Battle of the Bands in April of 2018 and will be performing at the Halifax Pop Explosion Festival in October.
Reggie recently graduated from the Music: Performance, Business & Technology program at CNA. He has been accepted to return to CNA in September to complete the Diploma of Sound Recording and Production to enhance his solo production skill set. Meanwhile, Reggie has been completing his album, “Rogue Wave,” which will be released in July of 2018.
