Folk \ Blues \ World Music
Tanglecove is a versatile acoustic duo, based in St. John’s NL and made up of two experienced multi-instrumental songwriters, Dave Panting (a long time part of the folk, rock and world music scene on the East Coast) and Dan Rubin (well established as a songwriter, performer and recording artist in BC, now living in Newfoundland. The two met more than ten years ago and began playing and teaching together. Since 2013 they have appeared and recorded as Tanglecove. They have released two albums of original music and are about to release their third. Their discography includes TANGLECOVE: 30 NEW CANADIAN FIDDLE TUNES (2013) which was released as a CD and a book, FACING THE FLAME (2015) a gorgeous collection of original songs in a wide range of styles, and the upcoming HOME ROOTS: TANGLECOVE ON TOUR which will be released in the summer of 2017.
The two musicians have been immersed in world and folk music for decades but both are songwriters who integrate blues. rock and classical influences in their original songs and instrumental works. They have each performed hundreds of times over the past forty years. They are essential members of the Canadian music scene because of their prolific works and the many awards they have received.
In performance, they combine intimate personal stories with powerful original songs. Between them they play violin, viola, mandolin, octave mandolin, bouzouki, guitar, bass, keyboards and percussion. Their vocal styles, strong harmonies and use of a wide range of musical sounds and textures make them among the most creative and sensitive artists in our province.
They have crossed the country as cultural ambassadors, performing for festivals, concerts, dances and receptions. They have appeared internationally, performing in Britain, South America, the United States, Spain, Portugal and Australia. Their music spans a wide range of styles and genres, combining Celtic traditions, world music, blues and rock to create unique musical works. They are acoustic musical masters, whose integration of song and story has enchanted audiences across Canada and around the world.
Tanglecove will be touring Ontario this Fall, playing for cruise ships arriving into St. John’s harbor and they are actively interested in being invited to appear anywhere people love rich and varied musical expression.
