St. John’s, NL, Canada – July 15, 2019:  Equinor and MusicNL are proud to present the Equinor MusicNL NewFound Talent Contest at the 43rdAnnual Newfoundland & Labrador Folk Festival in Bannerman Park.

Young musicians aged 19 and under will perform in front of a live audience, and will be judged by a professional panel consisting of Matt Dines (Hurricane Music and RocketRocketShip), and 2019 Folk Festival performers Carole Bestvater (Youngtree and the Blooms) andJuno-nominated Kaia Kater. The contest will take place on Saturday, August 10that 7pm on the TD Neil Murray Stage for youth performers, which is devoted to showcasing and fostering young talent. This year, the Newfoundland Folk Festival, Equinor, and MusicNL are pleased to provide a wheelchair accessible stage for all performers in the Newfound Talent Contest.

“Equinor believes in supporting young talent so they can realize their potential – we are proud to be presenting the Equinor MusicNL Newfound Talent Contest at Folk Festival again this year,” says Unni Fjaer, VP, Offshore Newfoundland for Equinor Canada. “It is so encouraging to see these young people perform on a live stage and share their experience with a broader audience through the showcase and awards.”

The NewFound Talent Contest is designed to discover, develop, encourage and showcase young entertainers. The competition offers professional development prizes valued at over $6,000 to aid talented young performers to help enhance their songwriting, performing and music business skills. Arguably the most prestigious aspect of the prize package is the opportunity for the first place winner to perform on the festival’s TD Main Stage on Sunday night with some of the world’s finest folk musicians, including NewFound Talent judge, Kaia Kater.

“The Equinor MusicNL NewFound Talent Contest is a phenomenal way for us to identify our future stars while they are still developing,” says Rebekah Robbins, Program, Marketing, & Communications Director with MusicNL. “This contest provides young musicians with expert mentorship and performance exposure.

“It is one of our most important all-ages initiatives and certainly one of our favourite events. MusicNL is pleased to work with the Newfoundland & Labrador Folk Festival and Equinor again this year on this exciting project for the sixth consecutive year.”
