Newfoundland’s Quote the Raven Sign Publishing Deal Sound of Pop signs for both debut EP and upcoming sophomore release Wolfville, NS {April 20, 2018}

Sound of Pop is pleased to announce they have signed a publishing deal with Newfoundland & Labrador based folk-pop-roots duo Quote the Raven. The deal includes the band’s forthcoming release “Golden Hour”, as well as their debut album “Misty Mountains”.

Founded in 2001, Sound of Pop (SOP) is an award-winning Music Publishing and Master/Sync representation company with a current catalogue of close to 1000 songs by Canadian artists/songwriters including Chris Kirby, Fairgale, Keith Mullins, Brianna Gosse, Kat McLevey, Happy Beats, Candice Sand, FM Berlin, Coco Love Alcorn, Andrew Waite & the Firm and more. SOP also represents international acts Kidneythieves (US), Voltaire Twins (Australia) and Bettie Serveert (Netherlands).

Sound of Pop’s Glenn McMullen said: “Chris Kirby (multiple ECMA/Music NL award winning songwriter/producer/artist) led me to Quote the Raven as he was getting ready to produce their sophomore release. I was able to see them perform at the 2017 Music NL Conference in St. John’s and subsequently fell in love with the bands songwriting & beautiful harmonies. The balance between alternating lead and harmony vocals really caught my ear. In January 2018, Sound of Pop coordinated a song camp in Halifax, Nova Scotia to work directly with producer/co-writer Chris Kirby and the band to help with the creative process for the new album. The writing camp allowed Sound of Pop to pull together a talented and diverse group of cowriters from Atlantic Canada (Ian Janes, Gabrielle Papillon, Keith Mullins, Dwight d’Eon & Charlie A‘Court to name a few), which resulted in the creation of some amazing songs for the new album.

Quote the Raven is a folk-pop-roots duo from Newfoundland & Labrador, Canada. Kirsten Rodden-Clarke and Jordan Coaker started their musical partnership in 2013 and released their debut EP “Misty Mountains” in the spring of 2016, with influences including Civil Wars, Milk Carton Kids and duet projects by Norah Jones/Billy Joe Armstrong and Alison Krauss/Robert Plant. The pair have completed multiple Newfoundland-wide tours in support of their first release and showcased for Music NL in 2016 and 2017, in addition to receiving Music NL Nominations for both “Rising Star” and “Folk/Roots Recording of the Year”.

Their upcoming album titled “Golden Hour” is set for national release in the summer of 2018, accompanied by a tour that will see the band perform at festivals & venues across Atlantic Canada, Quebec and Ontario. Their advance single “Laser Beam” is currently featured on Spotify’s “Folk & Friends” playlist and is being played on radio stations across Newfoundland & Labrador and Nova Scotia.

Jordan and Kirsten from Quote the Raven enthusiastically said: “We’re really pumped to sign with Sound of Pop, the guys have been amazing to work with so far and we’re really looking forward to the opportunities that this partnership will bring. We’ve been working on honing our craft over the past few years and us signing with SOP is an indication that our hard work is paying off.”
