ABOUT THE PROGRAM

MusicNL is pleased to partner with Landfall Trust of Brigus and Genoa Design International to present our 5th Musician-in-Residence opportunity from August 2nd to 15th, 2025. This proud partnership has been in operation since 2021, and we are thrilled to continue supporting artists in this unique and meaningful way.

Each August, the program gives a MusicNL member the opportunity to spend two weeks at the historic 200-year-old Kent Cottage, a Landfall Preserve and Provincial Heritage Site nestled on a cliff overlooking beautiful Brigus Bay, surrounded by 11 acres of untamed coastline and pristine, undeveloped natural lands. The MusicNL Musician-in-Residence program connects artists with Newfoundland and Labrador’s natural heritage to inspire new creative work while strengthening community bonds and providing dedicated time for artistic development. Each resident contributes to the local cultural landscape through community engagement, creating meaningful connections between artists and audiences while celebrating shared musical heritage.

Past MusicNL participants include award winning artists Rube & Rake, Nico Paulo, Ana Luisa Ramos, and Ian Foster.

The selected Musician-in-Residence will be provided with a place to live and create, and a stipend for food and supplies while they spend two weeks in one of the most inspiring areas of the province. The rustic cottage is in a quiet, secluded, off-the-grid location, making this residency the perfect opportunity for a songwriting retreat; however, other projects will be considered.

As part of the residency, the selected musician will also be required to lead a community outreach project. This could take the form of a performance at the iconic Brigus Blueberry Festival, a workshop, a presentation, an artist talk, a drop-in session, or another activity that you imagine.

ELIGIBILITY

The Musician-in-Residence program is open to MusicNL members who are 19 years of age or older with an active music practice at any stage of their career. Equal consideration is given to all genres, and eligibility is not limited to lyric-based songwriting.

Bands are welcome to apply; however, please note that the cottage has two bedrooms (one double bed and two singles), and the stipend will not increase.

Applications are encouraged from musicians of all backgrounds. Artists with children or dependents, or artists requiring a support person are welcome to apply. Children, dependents, spouses, partners and support persons may join you if required.

APPLICATION PROCESS

Applications must be submitted through Good Grants using the application button below. Applications will only be considered if received through the online application form. If MusicNL requires further information, clarification, or links to support your application, you will be contacted directly.

If you have any issues with the form, require accommodations during the application process, or have any questions, please contact the MusicNL Programs Manager, Mariana, at programs@musicnl.ca.
