This is the title song from my soon-to-be-released CD of original songs. It is a tongue-in-cheek look at the decline of the cod fishery, which has been the subject of debate for quite some time in Newfoundland and Labrador (NL). Many theories have been expounded about that decline, but none as interesting as the story told to the judge by a fisher who found himself accused of stealing the cod resource. In 2020, the Royal Canadian Mint issued a $20 silver coin to commemorate the 1978 sighting of a UFO near Random Island, Trinity Bay, NL. In 2003, codfish were found dead and floating on the water in Smith Sound, Trinity Bay, NL, near Random Island, and the public and fishers, alike, “steamed around, picked ‘em up, took ‘em in and sold ‘em”. Scientists say that the internal organs of the cod froze due to unusually cold water currents. However, the truth about our dwindling cod stocks and the role played by aliens can be learned from The Fisher’s Tale.
