Monday, November 29, 2021 – CORNER BROOK, NL – Today MusicNL announced their new Instrumental Connections Program funded by the Department of Immigration, Population Growth and Skills.

The Connector Program matches newcomers and graduates with local employers and community leaders based on industry experience and professional backgrounds. The Connector Program announcement kicks off Music Celebration Week in Newfoundland and Labrador which runs from November 29th – December 5th, 2021.

“Talented musicians in our province deserve every opportunity to succeed, and a big part of that success is based on the strength of their networks. This program will build ties between newcomers and locals in the music sector, sparking the next movement in their careers. I look forward to the results of this initiative and toward building more incentives for artists looking to make Newfoundland and Labrador their home and base for creative production.”
Honourable Gerry Byrne
Minister of Immigration, Population Growth and Skills

Connectors are asked to refer the Connectee to a minimum of three people in their network, and then each of these people are asked to refer the Connectee to three more. These referrals may be professionals in the music industry, influential leaders within the sector or other people who will benefit from meeting talent.

As Connectees meet with business and community leaders, they gain a better understanding of the local music industry, learn about the community, and are exposed to business and career opportunities in Newfoundland and Labrador.

Connecting those in the music sector with the local community has proven invaluable for our artists,” says Nigel Jenkins, incoming Chair of MusicNL. “Everything from musical connections to business connections is helping Newfoundland and Labrador retain the talent it requires to survive and thrive.”

The new program is part of the larger National Connector Program, which now has successful programs in 35 cities across Canada. To learn more about the program and how you can get involved please visit: https://musicnl.ca/connector-program-instrumental-connections/
